Job summary

Reston Hospital Center is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist PRN to perform ultrasound procedures across abdominal, thyroid, carotid and renal studies. The role emphasizes patient communication, privacy, and adherence to department policies.

The candidate will maintain documentation, ensure rapid yet accurate studies within time guidelines, and support imaging services in a community hospital setting in Reston, Virginia.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a program in Ultrasound Technology approved by the AMA or documented equivalent education, experience, and training.
• RDMS certification demonstrates credentialed proficiency in diagnostic ultrasound.
• BLS must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date; ongoing regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Performs all ultrasound procedures in accordance with department policies and regulatory requirements.
• Communicates procedure details to patients and answers questions.
• Applies age-appropriate care principles and protects patient rights and privacy.
• Reports significant issues to the Technical Director.
• Maintains proper documentation and department records.
• Performs diagnostic abdominal ultrasound studies within 45 minutes or less.
• Performs other diagnostic ultrasound (thyroid, carotids) within 30 minutes or less.
• Performs diagnostic renal ultrasonography within 1 hour 30 minutes.
• Performs limited abdominal ultrasonography (gall bladder, aorta, renal) within 30 minutes.

Job Summary and Qualifications

• Performs all ultrasound procedures in strict accordance with currently approved practices as outlined in department policy and procedure manuals and complying with all applicable federal, state, local and other regulatory requirements.


• Communicates to the patient the nature of the procedure and answers questions clarifying the procedure for the patient.


• Demonstrates practical application of age-related factors.


• Assures patients rights and privacy are maintained.


• Reports any significant problems related to patient, physicians, ultrasound procedures, housekeeping, maintenance, supplies, or personnel to Technical Director.


• Responsible for proper documentation and maintenance of all required department records.


• Perform diagnostic abdominal ultrasound studies in 45 minutes or less.


• Perform miscellaneous diagnostic ultrasound (i.e. thyroid, carotids) in 30 minutes of less.


• Perform diagnostic renal ultrasonography in one hour 30 minutes of less.


• Perform limited abdominal ultrasonography (i.e., gall bladder, aorta, renal) in 30 minutes of less.

What qualifications you will need:

• Graduate of program in Ultrasound Technology approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association or documented equivalent education, experience, and training.


• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date


• (RDMS) Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
