Job summary

Reston Hospital Center is seeking a PRN Ultrasound Technologist to perform a range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures. The role requires compliance with department policies, patient communication, and strict privacy standards within a leading acute care facility in Northern Virginia.

The position emphasizes efficiency in exams such as abdominal, thyroid, carotid, and renal studies, with a strong focus on accurate documentation and safety.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Ultrasound Technology program approved by the AMA CMA or equivalent education/experience.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs all ultrasound procedures per department policies and regulatory requirements.
• Communicates with patients about the procedure and answers questions.
• Maintains patient privacy and rights; documents and reports as required.
• Performs abdominal, thyroid, carotid, renal, and limited abdominal ultrasound studies with efficiency.

Job Summary And Qualifications

• Performs all ultrasound procedures in strict accordance with currently approved practices as outlined in department policy and procedure manuals and complying with all applicable federal, state, local and other regulatory requirements.
• Communicates to the patient the nature of the procedure and answers questions clarifying the procedure for the patient.
• Demonstrates practical application of age-related factors.
• Assures patients rights and privacy are maintained.
• Reports any significant problems related to patient, physicians, ultrasound procedures, housekeeping, maintenance, supplies, or personnel to Technical Director.
• Responsible for proper documentation and maintenance of all required department records.
• Perform diagnostic abdominal ultrasound studies in 45 minutes or less.
• Perform miscellaneous diagnostic ultrasound (i.e. thyroid, carotids) in 30 minutes of less.
• Perform diagnostic renal ultrasonography in one hour 30 minutes of less.
• Perform limited abdominal ultrasonography (i.e., gall bladder, aorta, renal) in 30 minutes of less.

What qualifications you will need:

• Graduate of program in Ultrasound Technology approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association or documented equivalent education, experience, and training.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• (RDMS) Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
