Job summary

UMass Memorial Nashoba Valley Health is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist to provide direct patient care and perform ultrasound examinations under the supervision of a Radiologist. The position emphasizes accurate data handling, timely reporting, and collaboration with physicians.

Requirements include graduation from an accredited Ultrasonography or Radiologic Technology program and ARDMS certification within one year. A signing bonus may be eligible during the interview process.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of experience in diagnostic ultrasound under physician supervision.

• ARDMS registration in one category within one year of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Conduct ultrasound examinations in inpatient or outpatient settings per protocols.
• Maintain accurate patient records and pertinent clinical data.
• Submit completed reports and images promptly to PACS for radiologist review.
• Assist radiologists with ultrasound-guided interventional procedures.

Everyone Is a Caregiver

Under the supervision of the Lead Ultrasound Technologist, provides direct patient care services and other related functions in support of the department. Performs independently within scope of department policies. Clinically works at the direction of a qualified Radiologist.

• Travel between Marlborough and Nashoba/Groton as scheduled to provide operational, administrative, or departmental support.
• The float requirement only applies to newly hired staff at UMass Memorial Nashoba Valley.

I. Major Responsibilities

• Properly performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations, consistent with the age of the patient, in in-patient or outpatient settings, in compliance with departmental and professional standards and protocols.
• Gather pertinent clinical data and maintains accurate patient records.
• Accurately completes all records, paperwork , and billings and submits promptly .
• Positions and transfers patients appropriately and assists physicians with interventional exams.
• Promptly and properly completes exams, performs QC to images and send exams to PACS for review by the radiologist.
• Assists the radiologists with ultrasound guided interventional procedures.
• Follow Universal protocol in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
• Assists in maintaining an orderly inventory and in arranging the purchase of needed supplies.
• Monitors equipment to ensure that it remains in proper working order and ensures that proper supplies are available as needed.
• Utilizes proper sterilization and cleansing of all probes according to department policy and procedure.
• Assists with other job-related duties including film processing, urgent requests, and scheduling.

II. Position Qualifications

License/Certification/Education

Required:

• Graduate of an accredited Ultrasonography or R adiological Technology program.
• Registration required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in one category within one year of hire date.

Preferred:

• Associate degree

Experience/Skills

Required:

• Minimum one year of experience in diagnostic ultrasound under the direction of a qualified physician.
• Knowledge consistent with outlines in Physics and Instrumentation, Abdominal OB/Gyn Ultrasound for ARDMS exams.
• Demonstrated ability to provide quality patient care with minimal supervision in a fast-paced setting, collaborating with peers to produce optimum results.
• Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with patients and families.

Preferred:

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required , an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
