  • Experience with Epic, Visage, ClickView is a plus

Job Summary

The Ultrasound Technologist performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic ultrasound examinations and interventional procedures of varied complexity, producing quality diagnostic images for physicians and other health care providers to diagnose, treat, and monitor disease processes in adult and pediatric patients.

The incumbent works independently, exercising sound clinical judgment on complex and challenging diagnostic studies to deliver accurate results in a timely manner. Work is guided by established procedures and protocols, with quality reviewed by the shift supervisor, principal ultrasound technologist, manager, or radiologist.

Minimum Qualifications

  • American Registration for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification with applicable credential [e.g., Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT, etc.], or equivalent certification
  • American Registration for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Certification in Abdomen and/or OB/GYN
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Minimum education satisfied through attainment of the required licensure/certification
  • Demonstrated ability to operate ultrasound equipment to produce diagnostic-quality images, including analytical skills for non-routine, complex studies across a varied patient population.
  • Ability to adapt to new equipment, software, and protocols as the field advances; ability to follow extensive, detailed protocols and checklists.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and congenital/acquired pathology, and of ultrasound physics and propagation, as they relate to diagnostic ultrasound.
  • Physical ability to perform all functions of a staff sonographer, including assisting practitioners during surgical or other sterile procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including clear documentation and reporting; ability to communicate effectively in English with patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, follow instructions, and maintain a high level of professional conduct, including under fluctuating workloads.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload to produce a sufficient volume of quality work in a timely manner; ability to concentrate over time without distraction.
  • Working knowledge of Epic, Visage, ClickView, and other patient care/documentation systems, plus standard keyboard and RIS/IS data entry, security, and privacy requirements.
  • Ability to recognize the need for and maintain confidentiality of patient records and other work-related information at all times.
  • Demonstrates UC Davis Health customer-service standards, including compassionate and respectful patient interaction, active listening, effective problem resolution, and collaborative teamwork with physicians and staff.
  • Dependability and professionalism, including attendance, punctuality, positive attitude, and initiative in maintaining a clean, well-stocked, and well-functioning work area.

  • Preferred extensive experience with complex fetal anomalies and associated maternal/fetal disease processes.

Department Overview

The UC Davis Department of Radiology performs imaging and therapeutic procedures for patients throughout Northern California. Our radiological services are timely, cost-effective, appropriate and of the highest quality. Routine and specialized imaging studies, visceral and vascular intervention procedures, and contemporary neuro-interventional services are available.

Department Specific Job Scope

The Department of Radiology operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing imaging services to adult and pediatric inpatients and outpatients. This position rotates among scanning locations, including Davis Tower, the Ambulatory Care Center (ACC), and PCN satellite facilities, and may be assigned to the Main Hospital, ACC, and/or satellite clinics throughout UC Davis' Primary Care Network as operational needs require.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
