Job summary

UC Davis Health is seeking an Angiography Technologist to perform and assist with diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures. You will scrub in, circulate, and prepare equipment while ensuring patient safety and protocol adherence.

Candidates must hold a CRT, CA Fluoroscopy Permit, and a current BLS. The role requires on-site work at the UC Davis Health Radiology Department, Sacramento, with a rotating on-call schedule.

Qualifications

• CRT certification required or eligible for licensure.
• CA Fluoroscopy Permit must be current and valid.
• BLS or UC Davis Health CPR is required.

Under general supervision, the angiography technologist performs and/or assists with routine and highly specialized diagnostic and therapeutic interventional radiology procedures on patients following established parameters/protocols for use by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. Assist in maintaining a smooth operational flow and maximum patient volume. Scrubs in and assist the physician during the procedure, circulates within the procedure room and procure all equipment needed for any given procedure, positions the patient, selects radiation exposure parameters and image the patient. Maintains a high degree of accuracy and an awareness of all radiation and patient safety issues involved with any invasive procedure.

Demonstrates a thorough understanding and working knowledge of normal anatomy, abnormal anatomy and physiology, radiation safety, interventional supplies and equipment operation. Recognizes and resolves equipment operations, problems and discrepancies. Anticipates patient needs and concerns and determines the appropriate care needed. Uses professional judgment and critical thinking when performing procedures. Performs calmly in stressful situations and interacts with radiologists, clinicians and peers in a cooperative, harmonious manner for maximum effectiveness. Will be required to take call on a rotational basis.

• Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)
• Valid CA Fluoroscopy Permit required
• American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
• Knowledge and ability to operate radiology equipment, such as, radiographic/fluoroscopic machines, Interventional Radiology equipment, associated surgical equipment, CT & US equipment, and auxiliary equipment to provide quality images.
• Ability to adapt to new programs, technologies, and equipment upgrades as the radiology field advances.
• Assist physicians with specialized diagnostic and interventional procedures by handling equipment, preparing procedure and instrument trays, prepping, and explaining procedures to patients and other related tasks under supervision of an Interventional Radiologist.
• Comprehensive knowledge of radiology principles and practices including anatomy and physiology, radiation protection and physics, radiographic positioning, surgical and nursing procedures.
• Ability to remain flexible with scheduling changes throughout day to accommodate patient care needs.
• Ability to use basic nursing skills and CPR.
• Ability to react quickly and knowledgeably in emergency situations.
• Must be a self-starter requiring minimal direction from supervisor or physicians.
• Ability to display common sense and good judgement in following rules, protocols, policies and procedures.
• Ability to perform on an independent level, using initiative and ingenuity to assist the Radiologist in achieving a diagnosis.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment.
• Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility, anticipates, and effectively handles change.
• Organizational skills to establish workload priorities for completion of all tasks in a timely manner.
• Organizational skills to coordinate and complete workload with high degree of accuracy.
• Must have knowledge of Joint Commission requirements and Title 17 law.
• Ability and skills to be sensitive and professional with patients, physicians, and staff in relations and appearance.
• Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, follow instructions and maintain a high level of professional conduct.

Preferred Qualifications

• ARRT (R)
• Knowledge and ability to fill out departmental and hospital report forms and records.

Work Environment
