Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer to contribute to ultrasound system hardware development. You will design and modify mechanical components, perform thermal and stress analyses, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and quality.

You will leverage SolidWorks to create and modify 3D drawings, generate BOMs, and work with suppliers to optimize cost and performance in FDA-regulated environments.

Qualifications

• BS in mechanical engineering from an accredited institute.
• Experience with injection-molded plastics, magnesium and aluminum die-casting, aluminum extrusions, sheet metal, thermal management, and EMI/RFI shielding.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks.
• Understanding of strain/stress issues on printed circuit boards with RoHS-compliant components.
• Experience generating, reviewing, and modifying 3D drawings.
• Experience in thermal analysis and solutions.
• Experience in stress analysis and solutions.
• Knowledge of plastic and metal tooling to evaluate suppliers’ tools.
• Ability to perform risk/benefit trade-offs comparing suppliers of mechanical components.
• Experience generating and reviewing bills of material.
• Persistent, detail-oriented, and willing to investigate insufficiently documented designs.
• Disciplined adherence to established procedures/processes.
• Technical writing skills for qualification plans and reports.
• Ability to interface with overseas manufacturers.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• ISO, FDA, or other regulated-industry training and experience highly desired
• Previous experience working with FDA-regulated products highly desired

Responsibilities

• Solve mechanical design issues to improve the quality of complex ultrasound systems.
• Establish and implement innovative modifications to existing designs to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
• Design and modify sophisticated mechanical parts and assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Simulate and analyze design alternatives using thermal and stress simulation packages.
• Perform stress analysis of circuit boards and enclosing mechanical structures, considering shock and vibration requirements.
• Establish design modifications to improve the quality of existing mechanical components.
• Modify existing ultrasound-system mechanical components to reduce cost.
• Review and modify detailed drawings to correct quality issues.
• Generate bills of material.
• Work with suppliers to ensure design manufacturability.
• Conduct rapid prototyping, first-article testing, and qualification-plan execution.
• Report qualification results in formal documents.
• Interface with electrical, systems, industrial design, supply chain, and supplier teams.
• Work with senior mechanical and production engineers to resolve manufacturing and design issues.
• Contribute to establishing and maintaining project schedules.
