Job summary

The New School's University Learning Center (ULC) is seeking a part-time math tutor to support undergraduate and graduate students across quantitative subjects, including Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, Economics, and Excel. You will tutor one-on-one, adapt to varied skill levels, and help students become independent learners.

You will also document session notes and attendance, and may lead ULC workshops in a hybrid setup.

Qualifications

  • Graduate student currently enrolled in The New School with at least one year of tutoring or teaching math/economics.
  • Must have completed Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus and Statistics with a grade of B+ or higher.
  • Excellent communication skills; reliability and punctuality; able to commit to 6+ tutoring hours per week.
  • Experience with ESL or graduate-level students preferred; Federal Work Study preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor undergraduate and graduate students in math and economics subjects, including Quantitative Reasoning, Statistics, R, Tableau, SPSS, Economics, Accounting, Excel, Math Merchandising, Math Tools, and Calculus.
  • Create a welcoming, respectful learning environment that accommodates diverse backgrounds and language skills.
  • Complete administrative tasks: write brief descriptions of each session and email a daily attendance summary.
  • Lead in-class workshops and/or specialized ULC workshops.

Tutors help students become stronger and more independent learners, so that they succeed in achieving their academic goals. **Job Responsibilities:*** Tutor undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of math and economics subjects, including Quantitative Reasoning, Statistics, R, Tableau, SPSS, Economics, Accounting, Excel, Math Merchandising, Math Tools, and Calculus.* Work with students of varying skill levels from demonstrating the basics to assisting with complex problems and a range of issues in between.* Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences.* Complete administrative tasks, such as writing brief descriptions of each session and emailing a brief summary of daily attendance.* Other opportunities include leading in-class workshops and/or specialized ULC workshops.**Minimum Qualifications:*** Tutors must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at the university and have at least one year of tutoring experience or teaching math/economics in a formal academic setting.* Candidates must have taken Algebra, Pre-Calculus and Calculus, and Statistics.
