Job summary

The New School in Chicago is seeking tutors to help undergraduate and graduate students with software like Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Rhino, Figma, Blender, Premiere, After Effects, AutoCAD, Fusion, V‑Ray, Revit, SketchUp, and coding in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, Unity, Arduino. You’ll assist learners across skill levels and maintain a respectful, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities include daily summaries, session notes, and leading workshops.

Qualifications

  • High level of comfort with Adobe CS and other software.
  • Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of Python highly preferred.
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at The New School.
  • Experience with ESL and graduate students preferred.
  • GPA 3.0 or higher and reliability are expected.
  • Excellent communication and punctuality, with 6+ tutoring hours weekly.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Tutor undergraduate and graduate students in various software such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Rhino, Figma, Blender, Premiere, After Effects, AutoCAD, Fusion, V‑Ray, Revit, SketchUp, etc., or in coding languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, Unity, Arduino and others you are fluent in.
  • Work with students of varying skill levels, from demonstrating the basics to assisting with complex problems and a range of issues in between.
  • Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences.
  • Complete administrative tasks, such as writing brief descriptions of each session and emailing a brief summary of daily attendance.
  • Lead in‑class workshops and/or specialized ULC workshops.
Qualifications
  • Must have a high level of comfort and expertise in Adobe CS and other software programs, and/or strong knowledge of computer programming and a high level of expertise in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of additional programming languages is highly preferred, especially Python.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at The New School.
  • Experience working with ESL and graduate‑level students strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with students with ADHD a plus.
  • Federal Work Study preferred.
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
  • Able to commit to 6 (or more) tutoring hours per week.

Pay Rate: $29.20/hr through August 31 (new pay rate will be determined by the next collective bargaining agreement)
