Qualifications

  • Prior experience in building automation controls technician work.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
  • Familiarity with BACnet, MS/TP, BACnet/IP, or other BAS communication protocols.
  • Ability to interpret HVAC sequences of operation and trace system cause-and-effect.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and control schematics.
  • Good understanding of electrical controls, relays, motor starters, and variable-frequency drives.

This position works closely with electricians, controls technicians, project managers, HVAC contractors, TAB contractors, commissioning agents, and customers to deliver safe, reliable, and properly documented control systems.Essential Duties:Performing BAS installations for commercial and industrial customersDaily tasks include building automation systems installations, electrical control work, wiring and cabling, troubleshooting and diagnosticsDevelop working knowledge of HVAC systems including air-handling units, VAV systems, pumps, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, VFDs, and related mechanical equipmentAdhere to current NEC and industry related practices, including area classificationsVerify field installations against approved drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and project standardsMaintain professional demeanor with both colleagues, customers, subcontractors, and other tradesMaintain accurate device labeling, redline drawings, checkout documentation, and other project recordsAdapt to changing project requirements, schedules, and field conditionsPerforms other assigned duties as neededQualifications/Requirements:Prior experience in building automation controls technician workWorking knowledge of electrical controls, relays, motor starters, and variable-frequency drives.Experience with electrical control wiring, low-voltage systems, project installation, testing, or troubleshooting.Demonstrated knowledge of current NEC and industry-related practicesStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilityFamiliarity with BACnet, MS/TP, BACnet/IP, or other BAS communication protocolsAbility to interpret HVAC sequences of operation and trace system cause-and-effectExperience with controller addressing, network troubleshooting, and basic BAS system architectureAbility to use BAS software to viewpoints, commands, alarms, schedules, and trendsFamiliarity with lighting control, electrical metering, emergency power, or other integrated building systemsExperience working in schools, hospitals, manufacturing facilities, commercial offices, or data centersInterest in progressing toward BAS startup, programming, commissioning, project supervisionAdheres to professional conduct in addressing issues with appropriate partiesAbility to read electrical drawings and control schematicsDemonstrated commitment to safe work practices, quality workmanship, documentation, and professional conductAbility to use electrical test equipment safely and systematicallyAbility to work independently while communicating effectively with project supervision and other tradesPhysical Requirements:Able to work off all types of ladders, lifts and elevated platforms (electric or gas powered)Able to work at various heights up to 50 feet from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks, or other safe work areasAble to work in restricted areas, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces and atticsAble to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overheadAble to carry tools and materials up to 50 pounds from the ground to overheadAble to constantly move on feet, climbing ladders and working overheadPossess good vision (normal or corrected)Must be able to get to various customer sites as requiredWork Environment: Able to work in all elements, depending on job locations and time of yearThe above statements are intended to reflect the principal duties of the position and are not intended to be all-inclusive.
