Job Description Summary

University Human Resources (UHR) has an exciting opportunity for a HR professional to serve as the inaugural Manager, Labor Relations within the UHR Labor Relations team. The Manager is responsible for supervising a team of Labor Relations Consultants and providing professional support to the Program Director, Labor Relations. The incumbent in this new role will have the opportunity to foster positive working relationships with labor unions, resolve union disputes and ensure compliance with labor laws, regulations and collective bargaining agreements. The ideal candidate will have experience providing professional support in a high pace, high volume environment while maintaining strong communication with unions and leadership and confidentiality of sensitive information.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of professional human resources experience in the areas of employee or labor relations. One (1) year of experience leading or supervising professional staff.
  • Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations, including those pertaining to collective bargaining and employer-employee relations.
  • Skill in managing and guiding complex labor relations cases, including developing strategy, advising stakeholders, and coordinating across multiple levels of leadership.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to effectively manage labor relations staff, including setting priorities, coaching and developing employees, evaluating performance, and ensuring high-quality, consistent delivery of labor relations services in alignment with program direction.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
