Job summary

UHC United Hospital Center is seeking a Sleep Study Technician to perform high-quality polysomnography and related tests in a clinical sleep lab.

The role requires state licensure, NBRC credentials, and CPR certification, with at least one year of polysomnography experience. A supportive team and hospital setting are provided.

Qualifications

• Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided.
• WV: Licensed Respiratory Therapist Certified (LRTC) through the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care
• Certification as a Certified Polysomnographic Technologist (CPSGT) through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists OR Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) through American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) within two (2) years of hire.
• Certification in NBRC: CPFT, RPFT, CRT, or RRT.
• Certification in CPR.
• One (1) year of Polysomnographic experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs high-quality polysomnograms.
• Utilizes proper testing montages to detect abnormal sleep architecture and related abnormalities.
• Performs artifact-free polysomnograms.
• Performs equipment pre- and post-testing including impedance check and calibrations.
• Obtains consent for Video Taping, Filming and/or Photography and Polysomnogram.
• Completes Pre- and Post-sleep Questionnaires.
• Documents patient sleep history for each procedure.
• Detects sleep hygiene problems and records appropriately.
• Charts clinical notes for physician interpretation.
• Records an event log with chronological documentation of patient interaction during sleep testing.
• Labels, files, and stores medical data per Sleep Center policy.

Job description

Performs diagnostic sleep studies related to the evaluation and treatment of patients with sleep disorders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided:

WV: Licensed Respiratory Therapist Certified (LRTC)through the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care

1. Certification as a Certified Polysomnographic Technologist (CPSGT) through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists OR Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) through American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM)within two (2) years of hire.

2. Certificationin one of the following through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC):

• Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT)

• Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT)

• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

1. Certification in CPR.
   EXPERIENCE:
2. One (1) year of Polysomnographic experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Current certification as a Certified Polysomnographic Technologist. (CPSGT)
2. Clinical Sleep Educator Certificate from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists.
   EXPERIENCE:
3. One (1) year of Sleep Study scoring experience.

2. Utilizes proper testing montages to detect abnormal sleep architecture, EEG/EKG abnormalities, abnormal respiratory events, and low oximetry.
3. Performs artifact-free polysomnograms.
4. Performs equipment pre- and post-testing including impedance check and calibrations and records in patient’s permanent record.
5. Obtains consent for Video Taping, Filming and/or Photography and Polysomnogram.
6. Completes Pre- and Post-sleep Questionnaires.
7. Document history of the patient’s sleep problems and documentation for each procedure.
8. Detect sleep hygiene problems and record appropriately.
9. Charts clinical notes for interpretation by physician regarding action taken and any comfort measures provided during sleep testing.
10. Records an event log with chronological documentation of patient interaction during sleep testing.
11. Labels, files, and stores medical data and test results according to Policy/Procedure in Sleep Center Manual.

3. Ability to communicate and understand instructions, information and/or concepts in order to report patient information, to explain the procedure and process to the patient, and to compile and complete technical reports.
