Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a Sleep Technologist to perform diagnostic sleep studies and assist in evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. Qualifications

• Registered Polysomnographic Technologist with 18 months sleep lab experience.
• Alternative: Registered Sleep Technologist with 18 months sleep lab experience.
• Respiratory Therapist licensure as per state requirements and NBRC certification.
• Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Ensure completion of patient testing procedures in Sleep Center and hospital.
• Document in tech notes, equipment, and patient chart.
• Perform sleep studies per policy guidelines in various hospital areas.
• Prepare initial data for physician sleep reports per dept. guidelines.
• Use AIDET communication with patients and families.

Performs sleep studies in accordance with the policy and procedure guidelines of the Sleep Evaluation Center, at the bedside and in critical care areas of the hospital.4. Prepares initial data for use by the physician in the formulation of sleep reports according to established department guidelines.5. Uses AIDET Communications Process (acknowledge, introduce, duration, explanation and thank you) and informs the patient and family regarding the nature and significance of the study performed.6. Accurately observes, records, and reports all patient concerns, symptoms, and reactions in a timely manner.7. Demonstrates the knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department policies and procedures8. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the equipment, procedure rooms and work areas of the Sleep Evaluation Center.9. Maintains CEU requirements and participates in department education and in-services.10. Assists in the instruction and hands-on technical training of trainees, house-staff, and medical staff both inside and outside of the institution.11. Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department by volunteering to assist co-workers, contributing ideas and problem solving with co-workers, as observed by supervision.12.
