WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital is seeking a Sleep Tech to perform polysomnograms and manage testing montages in a clinical sleep laboratory in Princeton, WV. The role requires accurate data collection and strict adherence to procedures.

The ideal candidate has one year of polysomnographic experience and relevant licensure/certifications. This is a non-exempt, on-site position with a focus on patient safety and detailed record-keeping in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided.
  • WV: Licensed Respiratory Therapist Registered (LRTR) through the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) OR Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) within two years of hire.
  • NBRC certifications: CPFT, RPFT, CRT, or RRT.
  • Certification in CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Performs high-quality polysomnograms.
  • Utilizes proper testing montages to detect sleep architecture abnormalities and respiratory events.
  • Performs equipment pre- and post-testing including impedance check and calibrations.
  • Obtains consent for Video Taping, Filming and/or Photography and Polysomnogram.
  • Completes Pre- and Post-sleep Questionnaires.
  • Documents history of sleep problems and procedure notes.
  • Detects sleep hygiene problems and records appropriately.
  • Charts notes for physician interpretation and actions taken.
  • Records event logs of patient interactions during sleep testing.
  • Labels, files, and stores medical data per Sleep Center policies.

Job description

Performs diagnostic sleep studies related to the evaluation and treatment of patients with sleep disorders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE
  • Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided
  • WV: Licensed Respiratory Therapist Registered (LRTR) through the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care
  • Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists OR Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) through American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) within two (2) years of hire.
  • Certification in one of the following through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC):
  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT)
  • Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT)
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Certification in CPR.
EXPERIENCE
  • One (1) year of Polysomnographic experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE
  • Current certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).
  • Clinical Sleep Educator Certificate from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists.
EXPERIENCE
  • One (1) year of Sleep Study scoring experience.

  • Performs high-quality polysomnograms
  • Utilizes proper testing montages to detect abnormal sleep architecture, EEG/EKG abnormalities, abnormal respiratory events, and low oximetry.
  • Performs equipment pre- and post-testing including impedance check and calibrations and records in patient's permanent record.
  • Obtains consent for Video Taping, Filming and/or Photography and Polysomnogram.
  • Completes Pre- and Post-sleep Questionnaires.
  • Document history of the patient's sleep problems and documentation for each procedure.
  • Detect sleep hygiene problems and record appropriately.
  • Charts clinical notes for interpretation by physician regarding action taken and any comfort measures provided during sleep testing.
  • Records an event log with chronological documentation of patient interaction during sleep testing.
  • Labels, files, and stores medical data and test results according to Policy/Procedure in Sleep Center Manual.

  • Ability to operate the sleep lab requiring eye-hand coordination, finger dexterity, near, far, and night visions with extended visual concentration.
  • Ability to communicate and understand instructions, information and/or concepts in order to report patient information, to explain the procedure and process to the patient, and to compile and complete technical reports.
