Job summary

UHC United Hospital Center in the United States seeks a Pharmacist to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical services in a hospital setting. You will dispense medications, consult with physicians and nurses, and support inventory, purchasing, and quality assurance efforts.

The role requires current pharmacist licensure in MD, OH, PA, or WV, hospital experience preferred, and a focus on patient safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Must possess current pharmacist license as required by state boards (MD, OH, PA, WV).
• Residency preferred.
• Hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Dispenses drugs, chemicals and other pharmaceutical preparations as ordered by physicians.
• Available for pharmaceutical consultation with doctors or nurses.
• Takes initiative in questioning a prescription if necessary.
• Assists manager of Pharmacy in purchasing of drugs from vendors.
• Talks with sales representatives of various pharmaceutical companies when needed.
• Makes drug checks and inspections on various floors.
• Assists with IV admixture program by checking orders for completeness, accuracy, compatibilities and other technical advice.
• May be delegated to attend some pharmacy involving hospital meetings.
• Assists the manager with the Pharmacy Quality Assurance program.
• Assists the manager with the Pharmacy floor inspection reports.

Job description

Working with Pharmacy personnel. Compounds the dispense medications and other pharmaceutical supplies using standard procedures to deliver comprehensive professional pharmaceutical service in the modern hospital. Has responsibilities delegated to purchasing, continuing education programs, stocking supplies for night stock, various departmental reports and other areas to keep a well-organized and efficient department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Must possess current license as required by state board where services will be provided:
   MD : Valid Pharmacist license through the Maryland Board of Pharmacy

OH: Valid Pharmacist license through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy
PA: Valid Pharmacist license through the Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy
WV: Valid Pharmacist license through the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:

1. Experience in Hospital Pharmacy through internship or as registered Pharmacist.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of growth and development.

3. Understanding of the dynamics for each patient incorporating biophysical, bio-psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical, and discharge planning needs.

4. Knowledge of pain management to facilitate patient comfort through a proactive pain control plan.

5. Knowledge of the total care of patients, whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on the control of pain and other symptoms.

6. Must be familiar with professional and commercial phases of Hospital Pharmacy and also with State and Federal laws governing Pharmacy.

7. Computer experience helpful.

8. Demonstrates competency as appropriate in patient care assessment for each patient population area served: Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
