Job summary

UHC United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV, seeks a licensed pharmacist to work with Pharmacy personnel and dispense medications in a modern hospital setting. This role supports purchasing, stocking, education programs, and departmental reporting to maintain an efficient Pharmacy.

Responsibilities include dispensing drugs, consulting with physicians and nurses, IV admixture support, quality assurance, and participation in relevant meetings. Residency is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current pharmacist license as required by the state board where services will be provided: MD, OH, PA or WV.
• Experience in Hospital Pharmacy preferred through internship or as registered Pharmacist.
• Residency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Dispense drugs, chemicals and other pharmaceutical preparations as ordered by physicians.
• Provide pharmaceutical consultation with doctors or nurses on a routine basis.
• Question prescriptions when necessary to ensure accuracy and safety.
• Assist manager of Pharmacy in purchasing of drugs from vendors.
• Communicate with sales representatives as needed for pharmaceutical supplies.
• Conduct drug checks and inspections on various floors.
• Assist with IV admixture program by checking orders for completeness and accuracy.
• May attend pharmacy-related hospital meetings as delegated.
• Assist the manager with Pharmacy Quality Assurance program.
• Assist with Pharmacy floor inspection reports.

Job description

Working with Pharmacy personnel. Compounds the dispense medications and other pharmaceutical supplies using standard procedures to deliver comprehensive professional pharmaceutical service in the modern hospital. Has responsibilities delegated to purchasing, continuing education programs, stocking supplies for night stock, various departmental reports and other areas to keep a well-organized and efficient department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must possess current license as required by state board where services will be provided:
   • MD: Valid Pharmacist license through the Maryland Board of Pharmacy
   • OH: Valid Pharmacist license through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy
   • PA: Valid Pharmacist license through the Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy
   • WV: Valid Pharmacist license through the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience in Hospital Pharmacy through internship or as registered Pharmacist.

8. May be delegated to attend some pharmacy involved hospital meetings.
9. Assists the manager with the Pharmacy Quality Assurance program.
10. Assists the manager with the Pharmacy floor inspection reports.

1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.

4. Knowledge of pain management to facilitate patient comfort through a proactive pain control plan.
5. Knowledge of the total care of patients, whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on the control of pain and other symptoms.
6. Must be familiar with professional and commercial phases of Hospital Pharmacy and also with State and Federal laws governing Pharmacy.
7. Computer experience helpful.
8. Demonstrates competency as appropriate in patient care assessment for each patient population area served: Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
