Job summary

UHC United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, West Virginia, seeks a licensed hospital pharmacist to join the Pharmacy team. The role involves dispensing medications, providing clinical consultations to physicians and nurses, and supporting the IV admixture program and quality assurance efforts.

Responsibilities include inventory management, vendor purchasing support, and collaboration with the Pharmacy manager to ensure safe, compliant patient care.

Qualifications

  • Current pharmacist license for required states (MD/OH/PA/WV).
  • Internship or registered pharmacist experience in hospital pharmacy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Dispense drugs and pharmaceutical supplies per physicians' orders.
  • Provide pharmaceutical consultation to doctors and nurses.
  • Question prescriptions when necessary and communicate with prescribers.
  • Assist Pharmacy manager with purchasing from vendors and supplier interactions.
  • Interact with sales reps and perform drug inspections across floors as needed.
  • Assist IV admixture program ensuring order accuracy and compatibility.
  • Attend pharmacy-related hospital meetings as assigned.
  • Support Pharmacy Quality Assurance and floor inspection reports.
  • Maintain night stock and support ongoing education and purchasing.

Job description

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess current license as required by the state board where services will be provided:
    • MD: Valid Pharmacist license through the Maryland Board of Pharmacy
    • OH: Valid Pharmacist license through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy
    • PA: Valid Pharmacist license through the Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy
    • WV: Valid Pharmacist license through the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Hospital Pharmacy through internship or as a registered Pharmacist.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Work with Pharmacy personnel and compound dispense medications and other pharmaceutical supplies using standard procedures to deliver comprehensive professional pharmaceutical service in a modern hospital.
  2. Dispense drugs, chemicals, and other pharmaceutical preparations as ordered by physicians.
  3. Be constantly available for pharmaceutical consultation with doctors or nurses.
  4. Takes initiative in questioning a prescription if necessary.
  5. Assist the manager of Pharmacy in purchasing drugs from vendors.
  6. Talk with sales representatives of various pharmaceutical companies when needed.
  7. Make drug checks and inspections on various floors as required.
  8. Assist with the IV admixture program by checking orders for completeness, accuracy, compatibilities, and other technical advice.
  9. May be delegated to attend some pharmacy‑involved hospital meetings.
  10. Assist the manager with the Pharmacy Quality Assurance program.
  11. Assist the manager with Pharmacy floor inspection reports.
  12. Maintain night stock and support continuing education programs and purchasing responsibilities.
Physical Requirements
  • Walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Be able to lift 30 pounds and push 50 pounds.
  • Dexterity required to finger, handle, and reach.

  • Knowledge of growth and development.
  • Understanding of the patient’s needs and scope of treatment.
  • Understanding of the dynamics for each patient incorporating biophysical, bio‑psychosocial, environmental, self‑care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical, and discharge planning needs.
  • Knowledge of pain management to facilitate patient comfort through a proactive pain control plan.
  • Knowledge of the total care of patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on the control of pain and other symptoms.
  • Familiarity with professional and commercial phases of Hospital Pharmacy and with state and federal laws governing Pharmacy.
  • Computer experience helpful.
  • Competency as appropriate in patient care assessment for each patient population area served: Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
