Job summary

UNTWN Uniontown Hospital is seeking a pharmacist to lead daily pharmaceutical care in a busy hospital setting. The role requires active pharmacist licensure in WV or PA and strong leadership capabilities. You will oversee staff and ensure compliance with regulations.

A 40-hour day shift is typical, with exempt status. Preferred candidates have 3+ years in hospital pharmacy and 1 year of leadership experience, plus BLS/ACLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Must hold current pharmacist license in WV or PA.
• Five (5) years of hospital-based pharmacist experience.
• Within 90 days obtain BLS/ACLS certification.
• Minimum 3 years hospital pharmacy experience and/or 1 year leadership.

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients in the hospital.
• Ensures controlled substances are managed in compliance with laws.
• Maintains inventory and formulary availability.
• Participates in hospital performance improvement activities.

• Must possess current license as required by state board where services will be provided:
• WV: Valid Pharmacist license through the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy
• PA: Valid Pharmacist license through the Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy

Experience

• Five (5) years of previous hospital-based pharmacist experience

Preferred Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure

• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 90 days of hire date

Experience

• Minimum 3 years' experience in a Hospital Pharmacy setting and/or 1 year Pharmacy leadership experience

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversees daily delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients of the hospital
• Identifies operational problems and opportunities for improvement and takes appropriate actions on both
• Ensures controlled substances are purchased, distributed, and documented in compliance with state and federal laws
• Ensures drug storage locations are maintained in an appropriate manner (e.g., floor stock, automated dispensing systems, surgery carts, emergency carts, crash carts, etc.)
• Ensures drug items are appropriately billed to various areas or patients to promote financial viability of the hospital
• Ensures pharmacy inventory is maintained at appropriate levels in a cost-conscious manner to promote availability of items in the Formulary
• Participates in and/or provides support to hospital committees as agreed upon by committee members and the Director of Pharmacy
• Participates in departmental and hospital performance improvement activities to promote quality in the medication use process
• Assists department and hospital in maintaining compliance with accreditation standards
• Assists in presenting medical, nursing, or department in-service programs
• Performs duties of Staff or Clinical Pharmacist, as required
• Supervises Staff Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Interns; other management and support staff as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy
• Reviews unit inspections and verifies these are completed monthly. Informs Director of compliance issues
• Assures completion of new hire and annual competencies for all employees in the department
• Monitors and documents staff performance. Assists Director with Staff performance appraisals
• Assumes the duty of developing, implementing and oversight of the Departmental staffing schedule
• Performs other duties as otherwise assigned by Director of Pharmacy

For Facilities With Specialty Accreditation Requirements

• Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.

Physical Requirements

• Walk and stand for long periods of time
• Must be able to lift 30 pounds and push 50 pounds.
• Dexterity required to finger, handle, and reach.
