Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Product Engineer III to sustain and advance UAV systems engineering for military and commercial applications.

You will modify designs, develop prototype hardware, support manufacturing drawings and BOMs, and guide manufacturing teams through production transitions. Ideal candidates have 5–8 years of relevant experience, Lean Six Sigma, and CAD expertise (Altium) with strong configuration management skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Lean Six Sigma experience or Green Belt certification
• 5-8 years of related experience in engineering design and production support
• Experience with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) a plus; RF, digital, and communications electronics design
• Electronics manufacturing troubleshooting PCB layout, schematics, and assemblies
• Design/drafting/CAD (Altium) including ASME Y14 drawing standards
• Strong understanding of configuration management principles
• Strong understanding of general engineering fundamentals, mathematics, physics, material properties, electronics, systems, software
• Experience building production assemblies documentation; production floor usage
• Ability to integrate across disciplines and coordinate with program management, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, suppliers and customers
• Proficient with office software and productivity tools

Responsibilities

• Sustain engineering support for a product line.
• Manage product line configuration and change orders in Agile PLM.
• Understand product design and manufacturing processes.
• Understand customer performance and configuration requirements for product.
• Act as technical point of contact for ongoing support and change initiation, including managing manufacturing and customer issues escalated to engineering.
• Assist in proposal & report writing, review contracts for production orders.
• Help coordinate the transition for new products and product variants into production.
• Coordinate release and update of engineering design documentation, operator manuals, bill of materials, manufacturing procedures, product acceptance test procedures, and production tooling and test equipment.
• Coordinate development, testing and release of product improvements and variants in cooperation with product line manager, design engineers and project managers.
• Provide component obsolescence management for the product line.
• Provide customer support for failure analysis, field bulletin technical content, general product information.
• Work with suppliers, purchasing and planning to ensure resolution of technical issues that impact production.
• Other duties as assigned.
