Job summary

AmeriCorps is seeking a Resource Position for The James 4-H Camp & Outdoor Learning Center in Arizona. The role focuses on expanding and managing resources for facility maintenance, outdoor projects, and youth programs.

Training and meals may be provided, with volunteers living on-site. The position supports partnerships with government agencies and contractors, requires a valid driver’s license, and involves weekend activities and irregular hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience with youth development and volunteer management is preferred.
• Experience/training using chain saws and heavy equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in expansion, development and management of camp resources.
• Support tree identification, thinning projects, and disposal of brush/brush piles.
• Support youth, staff, and volunteers during work projects and weekend activities.
• Ensure safety of campers, staff and volunteers; lift up to 30 pounds and hike up to 2 miles.

Job description

The James 4-H Camp & Outdoor Learning Center provides youth and adults with a state-wide residential camping experience.

The Resource Position will contribute to the expansion, development, and management of resources that include but, are not limited, to tree identification and marking for thinning project, removal/disposal of brush, branches, trees, building repair, and winterization of facilities.

The successful candidate will have an understanding and experience with community partnerships and volunteer management.

Experience/training using chain saws, tools, equipment such as tractors, backhoes, dump trailers.

Prefer experience with government agencies, contractors.

Drivers license, heavy equipment training/certification.

Must be age 21or older.

PROGRAM LOCATION: The James 4-H Camp & Outdoor Learning Center - Located on 55 secluded acres at an elevation of 6,500 feet on Mingus Mountain, Northeast of Prescott, AZ. The last five miles is a dirt road leading to the camp. The camp is 45 minutes to an hour away from the nearest town by car. AmeriCorps members live on property.

Member Duties :

AmeriCorps Volunteers participate in training that includes James 4-H Camp mission & purpose, camp policy & procedures, youth safety, emergency S.O.P, operating and safety procedures for activities and service projects, staff performance expectations, staff conduct and recognizing/reporting policy for harassment, abuse, and bullying. The Resource position may support direct instruction, and support youth, staff, and volunteers for work projects and during work weekend activities. Through the completion of projects that address facility needs will ensure the general safety of campers, staff, and volunteers. Ability to lift-up to 30 pounds and hike up to 2 miles. Ability to work irregular hours and days.
