The position provides individual and small group tutoring to students enrolled in the Adult Basic Education Program at TMCC, Meadowood Campus, supporting them with homework and study skills. No prior tutoring or teaching experience is required; PAID on‑the‑job training will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Meet with students on a regular schedule to help with homework, class work, and study strategies across ESL and high school level subjects (reading, writing, social studies, science, math).
- Assist students with reviewing class material, discussing texts, understanding instructions, completing assignments, preparing for HSE exams, and working through problem solutions.
- Work closely with the Tutor Associate to support program operations, including maintaining tutoring records, collecting sign‑in sheets, tracking attendance, and managing student communication and scheduling.
- Perform general clerical tasks such as reading and responding to emails, photocopying, and using basic office equipment (scanners, fax, Xerox, shredder, printers).
- Participate in all required PAID training, meetings, and school‑wide staff meetings.
- Enforce NSHE, TMCC, and ABE Program regulations and policies in a fair and consistent manner, adhering to FERPA confidentiality requirements.
- Support the Literacy Associate by reporting student progress and forwarding non‑routine issues to the Literacy Tutor Associate.
- Perform other duties of similar complexity as assigned.
Qualifications
- Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to multitask, organize, prioritize, and maintain attention to detail.
- Familiarity with basic office equipment (scanners, fax, Xerox, shredder, printers).
- Respect for confidentiality and sound decision‑making in analyzing information.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating as part of a team in a professional, positive environment.
- Tolerance to diverse learners and a professional business‑like appearance.
- Minimum qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent; ability to work a flexible schedule up to 19 hours per week, Monday–Saturday; a desire to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Preferred qualification: Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly wage of $19.00.
- Paid orientation and professional development training available for part‑time faculty; individual benefit eligibility may vary.
