Job summary

Tarrant County College seeks a part-time Tutor for TRIO at South Campus to support TRIO SSS students, help prepare instructional materials, and assist with student activities. The role emphasizes helping students become independent learners and persist in college.

Reporting to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services, the tutor will follow a regular schedule (Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm) with grant-funded status and up to 19.5 hours per week. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• One year of tutoring or lab assistant experience.
• At least one course in the specialized field or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides academic support in specific academic disciplines to support student learning and success.
• Assists in preparing, presenting, duplicating, collating, and assembling course instructional material.
• Assists in filing division or department materials, including purging, updating, and reorganizing files.
• Supports TRIO SSS staff in various student activities and courses offered by the College.
• Assists students in learning and implementing student learning and success strategies.

Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services, theTutor - TRIO is responsible for supporting and assisting in thepreparation, presentation, and distribution of instructionalmaterials in various divisions and departments on campus. The Tutor- TRIO supports TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) students tobecome independent learners, persist in college, and reach theiracademic goals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Performance Requirements*

• Provides academic support in specific academic disciplines tosupport student learning and success
• Supports and assists TRIO SSS staff in preparing, presenting, duplicating, collating, and assembling course instructionalmaterial
• Assists in filing division or department materials, includingpurging, updating, and reorganizing existing files
• Supports and assists TRIO SSS staff in various student activitiesincluding any courses and activities offered by the College
• Assists students in learning and implementing student learningand success strategies

Service Excellence

• Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, andfollows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of theworksite
• Completes all required training and professional developmentsessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College (TCC)Institute
• Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of theCollege

Supervision

Works under the general supervision of the Director of TRIO StudentSupport Services

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
• One (1) year of experience as a tutor or lab assistant
• At least one (1) course in the specialized field or equivalentexperience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum 3.00 GPA with grades of B or better in tutoring subjectareas
• At least one (1) year's working experience in providing supportservices to students from various backgrounds
• At least one (1) year's experience in the content areatutored
• At least one (1) year's working experience tutoring in a collegeenvironment
• Bilingual in English and Spanish in both written and verbalcommunications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to provide subject-specific content to help studentsachieve academic success
• Ability to work with developmental and college levelstudents
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
• Ability to use computer applications and enterprise systems,including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, andpresentation software
• Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonalskills
