Job summary

Tarrant County College's Trinity River Campus seeks a part-time Tutor for TRIO Student Support Services. The tutor will assist in preparing, presenting, and distributing instructional materials, and help TRIO SSS students develop independent study habits and persistence toward academic goals.

• One year of tutoring or lab assistant experience.
• At least one course in the specialized field or equivalent experience.
• Preferred: GPA and additional tutoring experience in diverse backgrounds.

• Provides academic support in specific disciplines to support student learning and success.
• Assists in preparing and presenting course instructional materials.
• Maintains and updates division/department materials and files.
• Supports TRIO SSS staff in student activities and courses on campus.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services, the Tutor - TRIO is responsible for supporting and assisting in the preparation, presentation, and distribution of instructional materials in various divisions and departments on campus. The Tutor- TRIO supports TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) students to become independent learners, persist in college, and reach their academic goals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Performance Requirements*

• Provides academic support in specific academic disciplines to support student learning and success
• Supports and assists TRIO SSS staff in preparing, presenting, duplicating, collating, and assembling course instructional material
• Assists in filing division or department materials, including purging, updating, and reorganizing existing files
• Supports and assists TRIO SSS staff in various student activities including any courses and activities offered by the College
• Assists students in learning and implementing student learning and success strategies

Service Excellence

• Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
• Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College (TCC) Institute
• Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College

Supervision

Works under the general supervision of the Director of TRIO Student Support Services

*Performs Other Related Tasks as Required

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
• One (1) year of experience as a tutor or lab assistant
• At least one (1) course in the specialized field or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum 3.00 GPA with grades of B or better in tutoring subjectareas
• At least one (1) year's working experience in providing supportservices to students from various backgrounds
• At least one (1) years' experience in the content areatutored
• At least one (1) year's working experience tutoring in a collegeenvironment
• Bilingual in English and Spanish in both written and verbalcommunications
• At least one (1) year's working experience tutoring mathematicsthrough Calculus and supporting advanced science coursework beyond the AP level, including college-level biology, chemistry, and related disciplines

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to provide subject-specific content to help students achieve academic success
• Ability to work with developmental and college level students
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
• Ability to use computer applications and enterprise systems, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
• Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonalskills
