Job summary

Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences seeks a Professional Tutor to support students through the College’s Center for Student Success. The Tutor will guide coursework, promote independent learning, and report to the Associate Director, Center for Student Success.

Responsibilities include meeting students individually or in groups, delivering content-based activities, and aiding study skills development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; Master’s preferred.
• Experience teaching or tutoring in higher education preferred.
• Must be available for scheduled hours.

Responsibilities

• Complete an online training module prior to tutoring; stay informed about tutoring policies.
• Meet and work with students individually or in small groups (frequency may vary).
• Provide content-based learning activities to enrich and support course content.
• Provide tools to assess learning and study habits and make suggestions as needed.
• Provide study skill suggestions and tools to become active learners.
• Provide academic support in all courses in the first and second-year undergraduate curriculum pertaining to their discipline.
• Meet with Instructors to discuss tutoring and student progress as needed.
• Meet with the Associate Director, Center for Student Success; attend staff meetings and in-services.
• Serve as a resource for other tutors, including Peer Tutors, in that same discipline.
• Make referrals to campus services as needed.
• Maintain bi-weekly time sheets.
• Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director.

The Tutor will assist and guide students in their coursework, provide academic support and integrate study and learning strategies to promote independent learning. The Tutor will report to the Associate Director, Center for Student Success.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

• Complete an online training module prior to tutoring; stays informed about tutoring philosophies, policies, and procedures through reading the Tutor Handbook
• Meet and work with students individually or in small groups (frequency may vary)
• Provide content-based learning activities to enrich and support course content
• Provide students with tools to assess their learning and study habits and make suggestions as needed
• Provide students with study skill suggestions and tools to become active learners
• Provide students with academic support in all courses in the first and second-year undergraduate curriculum pertaining to their discipline
• Meet with Instructors to discuss tutoring and student progress as needed
• Meet with the Associate Director, Center for Student Success regularly, attend staff meetings and in-services as required
• Serve as a resource for other tutors, including Peer Tutors, in that same discipline
