Pacific Sports Turf Inc. is seeking a Turfgrass Professional to join our Northwest team. You will consult with clients on turfgrass health and cultural practices, and help grow our service offerings on natural and synthetic surfaces.

Job description

Pacific Sports Turf Inc. is looking for a well-qualified turf grass enthusiast to join our team. The ideal candidate will have the right combination of education and/or practical experience with turf grass knowledge and horticulture principles.

Pacific Sports Turf Inc. excels in specialty maintenance operations on sports fields and golf sites throughout the Northwest. Our team of turf technicians cultivate and maintain high performance natural turf fields using proven cultural practices. We master the science and art of irrigating, fertilizing, aerating, seeding, top-dressing, soil testing (for structure and fertility), and general maintenance of athletic surfaces. We do most anything critical to sports turf management on natural and synthetic surfaces – except mow.

The Turfgrass Professional will be responsible for consulting with clients to help them through turfgrass related problems, maintaining relationships, and selling work related to turfgrass health or cultural practices.

Candidates would be expected to obtain an Oregon State Driver’s License and work with our turf crew to understand our process and timing, then with our assistance start producing sales contracts within 6 months of hire.

SUMMARY

Sells work pertaining to Turfgrass maintenance and repairs

PAY

$35.00+ per hour to start + benefits, negotiable DOE

REQUIREMENTS/ RESPONSIBILITIES

• Become skilled in all operations of turf maintenance equipment. Including but not limited to Top-dressing, Aerating, Deep Tine Aeration, Seeding, Field Renovation so that the sales of these procedures are accurate.
• Understand and be able to recognize biotic and abiotic stresses as well as effectively convey to clients how to deal with them.
• Understand academic principles/theory of turfgrass maintenance and be able to apply them to “real world” applications where timing or conditions are not ideal.
• Understand that clients may not be able to afford everything needed to provide a great stand of turf and be able to adjust your recommendations to give them the best possible stand for their budget.
• Understand that your clients may not be as well versed in care of their turfgrass and be able to gently educate them while selling work.
• Be able to work with the division manager and sometimes the crew to ensure work you’ve promoted is carried out to your expectations. Proposals put together must be clear with accurate notes.
• Be able to confidently and professionally speak at shows or for groups to educate and increase company visibility.
• Navigate the Pacific Northwest in a company vehicle safely, professionally, and efficiently.
• Comply with and enforce company policies.
• Develop and maintain a positive work relationship with administration, division managers, peers, and subordinates.
• Promote and maintain safe working conditions.
• Fill out detailed daily paperwork timely and accurately.
• Report quality control concerns to division managers so they can be appropriately corrected.
• Ability and desire to assist in field work if needed to help in a busy stretch and stay current on procedures
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. repetitively
• Ability to bend/stoop/crouch/squat/use arms/wrists/hands/grasp/sit on moving equipment for long periods.
• Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing
• Current drivers license with insurable driving record.
• Able to work various hours and various locations including out of town/overnight trips as required.
• Bachelor’s degree in turfgrass-based program or 4 years’ experience in managing large high end turfgrass facilities (golf course or athletic facility).
• Quality workmanship shall meet company standards.
