Job summary

Joby Aviation is looking for a Mechanical/Aerospace Engineer to lead turbomachinery aero-mech design and analysis for hydrogen-fuel-cell propulsion. Based in San Carlos, CA, you will perform aerodynamic and mechanical analyses of turbocompressors, support design optimization, and collaborate across the Powertrain team to meet performance and timing goals.

You will use 1D/2D mean-line methods, CFD/FEA, and 3D CAD to advance components from concept to testing, with hands-on testing and potential

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 5+ years in turbomachinery aero-mech.
• Strong problem solving and communication skills.
• Hands-on experience testing new product designs.
• Experience in a full product development cycle.
• Proficiency with CAE tools (CFD, FEA, MATLAB/Simulink).
• Basic 3D CAD skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform aerodynamic and mechanical analyses for turbocompressors.
• Design for performance, durability and reliability.
• Contribute to 1D/2D mean-line codes, CFD and FEA.
• Create 3D CAD support for analyses.
• Collaborate with cross-functional team to optimize aerodynamics.
• Support testing of prototypes and data reporting.
• Assist in aircraft flight testing when applicable.
