Tunnel Safety Lead — Underground Construction

Job summary

We are partnering with a well-known, long-tenured GC for safe underground tunnel construction projects in Texas. A Safety Shift Rep is needed to support Cesar Chavez Tunnel, I-35 Tunnel, and related work within a strong project pipeline.

Your responsibilities include daily safety inspections, OSHA compliance monitoring, confined space and ventilation oversight, toolbox talks, JHAs, incident investigations, and maintaining safety records.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily safety inspections of tunnel, shaft, and surface work areas to identify and correct hazards
• Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies specific to underground/tunneling construction
• Support confined space entry programs, ventilation monitoring, and gas detection procedures unique to tunnel environments
• Conduct toolbox talks, safety orientations, and job hazard analyses (JHAs) with crews and subcontractors
• Monitor TBM operations, shaft work, and material handling for compliance with site-specific safety plans
• Investigate incidents, near-misses, and safety violations; prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions
• Maintain safety documentation, training records, and inspection logs
• Assist with emergency response planning specific to underground construction hazards
