Job summary

HSM is seeking a CNC Tube Laser Operator at the Hickory Metal Plant in Hickory, NC. You will set up, operate, and monitor CNC tube laser cutting equipment, read blueprints, and inspect parts to ensure quality.

Responsibilities include load programs, perform maintenance, and document production data. We value safety, accuracy, and collaboration with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Manufacturing experience preferred; CNC/tube laser experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and manufacturing documentation.
• Experience using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures).
• Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and safety mindset.

• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections.
• Read and interpret blueprints and work orders.
• Safely handle materials and unload finished components.
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
• Identify quality concerns and collaborate with Production/QC/Maintenance teams.
• Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
• Support continuous improvement while keeping a clean, safe environment.

What You’ll Do

• Set up, operate, and monitor CNC tube laser cutting equipment
• Load machine programs and adjust settings for various materials and production requirements
• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring tools
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders
• Safely load raw materials and unload finished components
• Perform routine preventive maintenance, machine cleaning, and basic troubleshooting
• Identify quality concerns and work with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams to resolve issues quickly
• Maintain accurate production and inspection records
• Support continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment

What You Bring

• High school diploma or GED
• Manufacturing experience preferred, with CNC, tube laser, or metal fabrication experience strongly preferred
• Ability to read blueprints and manufacturing documentation
• Experience using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other precision measuring instruments
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Basic computer skills for machine operation and production reporting
• Excellent attention to detail, reliability, and a strong safety mindset
• Forklift or overhead crane experience is a plus
