Job description

We Could Use Someone Like You in Our Crew.
Trust & Safety Specialist — Child Safety Operations

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA (hybrid — San Francisco and/or San Jose offices)
Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hrs/week), W-2
Department: Trust & Safety

_ About the Role _

ModSquad is seeking a Trust & Safety Specialist - Brand Representative supporting a leading creative technology company’s child safety program at their office in San Francisco or San Jose. As a ModSquad employee, you will work directly within the client’s Trust & Safety operations team, serving as a front-line operator for CSAM queue review, NCMEC CyberTip reporting, and nuanced content assessment that directly supports law enforcement outcomes.

This is not a generalist content moderation role. The core of this work is high-exposure child safety operations embedded inside one of the world’s leading creative technology companies. If protecting the most vulnerable users on the internet is work you’re called to do, read on.

This position must be performed in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. Candidates must be authorized and able to work from that location, and available on-site at the client’s San Francisco office 2–3 days per week.

_ What You’ll Do _

  • Review and classify escalated visual content (images and video) using the A1–B2 NCMEC classification framework, making accurate reportability determinations in accordance with federal statute and the client’s child safety policies.
  • Submit CyberTip reports to NCMEC via established reporting protocols, ensuring documentation is accurate, complete, and legally defensible.
  • Conduct network investigations of repeat offenders, reviewing account signals (IP, email structure, behavioral patterns) to assess recidivism risk and support account deactivation decisions.
  • Review AI-generated content to assess user intent and identify potential child safety policy violations.
  • Identify trends in queue data and surface insights to inform process improvements and policy calibration.
  • Maintain detailed case documentation and elevate gray-area content for team calibration when classification is uncertain.

_ What We’re Looking For _

Required

  • Demonstrated, hands‑on experience reviewing and classifying CSAM in a professional Trust & Safety capacity. Applications without direct CSAM review experience will not advance.
  • Working knowledge of the A1–B2 NCMEC classification system and the federal reporting requirements that govern each category.
  • Experience submitting or supporting NCMEC CyberTip reports, including proper documentation standards.
  • Ability to review disturbing visual content — including explicit child sexual abuse material — with accuracy, objectivity, and emotional regulation on a daily basis.
  • Strong analytical judgment for nuanced, gray‑area content decisions where classification is not immediately obvious.
  • High attention to detail and ability to maintain documentation standards under volume and time pressure.
  • Experience supporting or directly handling law enforcement response workflows, including evidence preservation, documentation packaging, or coordination with internal legal teams on child safety‑related requests.
  • Full‑time availability (40 hrs/week), based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with 2–3 days per week on‑site at the client’s SF office.

Preferred

  • Prior experience with NCMEC reporting workflows, CyberTipline submissions, or law enforcement coordination in a Trust & Safety context.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems such as Zendesk or ServiceNow.
  • Experience reviewing AI-generated content for policy violations.
  • Familiarity with the client’s product suite and the creative professional use cases that distinguish legitimate from harmful content.

_ A Note on the Nature of This Work _

This role involves daily exposure to graphic and deeply disturbing content, including explicit child sexual abuse material. We believe candidates deserve to know that upfront. ModSquad and the team you’ll be embedded with take specialist wellness seriously — structured support, regular breaks, and access to mental health resources are built into how this program operates, not offered as an afterthought. We’re looking for candidates who come in experienced, clear‑eyed, and committed to this work for the right reasons.

_ Compensation _

The expected base pay range for this position is $69,000 to $104,000 per year, which represents the Company’s good‑faith estimate of the range it reasonably expects to pay for this position upon hire, based on market conditions at the time of posting.

The final offer will depend on relevant factors such as primary work location, experience, skills, qualifications, scope of responsibilities, and internal equity.

_ Benefits _

Benefits offered to employees hired into this position include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k)/retirement plan and applicable company contribution
  • Flexible time off for full‑time employees
  • Paid sick leave provided in accordance with applicable state and local law
  • Paid holidays
  • Parental/family leave
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Wellness/mental health resources

Specific eligibility requirements and terms are governed by the applicable benefit plans and Company policies.

_ Application Timing _

Applications for this position are expected to be accepted through October 31st. This is a good‑faith estimate and may be extended. The posting will be updated if the anticipated closing date changes.

_ Location _

This position must be performed in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. Candidates must be authorized and able to work from that location. Desk space is available at the San Francisco and San Jose offices.

_ Equal Employment Opportunity _
