Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Manage routine accounting activities, including reconciling accounts, closing the books monthly and annually, and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Compile financial reports and supporting schedules; assist with budgeting, forecasting, audits, and regulatory compliance; provide financial analysis and operational reporting to leadership.
  • Run the legal billing workflow, including prebill review, client invoicing, billing corrections, adherence to client billing standards, and maintenance of billing records and reporting.
  • Oversee client trust accounting to ensure accurate trust transactions, complete reconciliations, compliance with regulations, and proper segregation of client and firm funds.
  • Track accounts payable to ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, expense reimbursements, and vendor payments in accordance with approval guidelines.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and collections by reviewing aging reports, following up on unpaid balances, collaborating with attorneys, and resolving client billing issues.
  • Assist with payroll administration by verifying payroll data, supporting audits and year-end reporting, and liaising with payroll providers.
  • Perform additional accounting, financial, and administrative tasks as assigned.

Job description

The Trust Accountant will manage and maintain accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. This role supports the firm’s financial operations by overseeing trust accounting, billing processes, and general ledger activities. The position requires collaboration with attorneys, firm leadership, and other departments to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Required Experience/Skills

  • 3–5 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, accounting best practices, internal controls, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting principles.
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality, collaborate across departments, and work independently.

Preferred Experience/Skills

  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Familiarity with legal accounting and billing software.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
  • Continuing education in trust accounting or legal compliance preferred.
  • Knowledge of legal industry financial practices is advantageous.
