Job summary

JFD Cutting is a family-owned laser and waterjet cutting job shop operating since 2013. We seek a machine operator to set up, calibrate, and run semi-automated machinery, inspect outputs, and keep precise production records.

The role requires hands-on mechanical skills, familiarity with blueprints and manuals, and strong attention to detail. Candidates should be able to work in a physically demanding environment in Alaska.

Qualifications

• Quick troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced ability to read blueprints and manuals.
• Excellent mechanical skills; able to use tools for simple repairs.
• Strong time management and organization.
• Keen attention to maintenance, product, or operation issues.
• Ability to stand or sit in physically demanding positions for long periods.
• Proven experience as a machine operator.
• Experience with high-speed machinery and measurement tools (caliper, micrometer).
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals.
• Analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up machines (calibration, cleaning, etc.) to start a production cycle.
• Control and adjust machine settings (e.g., speed).
• Feed raw materials or parts to semi-automated machines.
• Inspect parts with precision and measuring tools.
• Test operation of machines periodically.
• Fix issues that might occur during the shift.
• Check output to spot machine-related mistakes or flaws.
• Keep records of approved and defective units or final products.
