Job summary

Western Engineering Co., Inc. is seeking a skilled and dependable Truck Mechanic to join our maintenance team.

You will inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel trucks and support equipment used in asphalt paving and construction throughout Iowa and Nebraska. You will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic systems, keep accurate records, meet DOT safety standards, and communicate repair needs with supervisors and drivers.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a diesel or heavy truck mechanic.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, air brakes, and heavy‑duty truck maintenance.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical failures efficiently.
  • Experience using diagnostic software and repair tools.
  • Ability to read service manuals and repair schematics.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on diesel trucks, trailers, and support vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, hydraulic, electrical, and air systems.
  • Complete inspections and identify potential mechanical issues before failures occur.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems with diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform emergency repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders.
  • Ensure repairs meet DOT regulations and safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Communicate repair needs and equipment status with supervisors and drivers.
  • Assist with other fleet maintenance projects as needed

Western Engineering Co., Inc. is seeking a skilled and dependable Truck Mechanic to join our maintenance team. As a Truck Mechanic, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on our fleet of heavy-duty trucks and support equipment used in asphalt paving and construction operations throughout Iowa and Nebraska.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance on diesel trucks, trailers, and support vehicles

Requirements
  • Experience as a diesel or heavy truck mechanic
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, air brakes, and heavy-duty truck maintenance
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical failures efficiently
  • Experience using diagnostic software and repair tools
  • Ability to read service manuals and repair schematics
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain one
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in shop and field environments
  • Must pass a pre‑employment drug screening
  • Must possess your own tools
