Job summary

The Salvation Army Thrift Ocala is seeking a part-time associate for store operations in Ocala, FL. You will help pick up donated items, sort and price them, and prepare them for display. The role includes occasional truck duties, heavy lifting, and maintaining a clean warehouse and shop area.

This position offers 24 hours per week with benefits and a day shift schedule on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. Prior lifting experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items or equivalent.
• No formal education required.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route to pick up donated items and assist the driver.
• Inspects donated items briefly to ensure policy compliance and guides customers on item types accepted.
• Lifts, carries, and packs donations into the truck, protecting items and ensuring safety.
• Receives, sorts, and prices donated items for display in the store; maintains order and cleanliness.

This position is responsible for:

Assist in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards.

Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area.

Key Responsibilities:

• Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items; assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.
• Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
• Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.
• Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc. according to the category and condition.
• Selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing; discards items in accordance with established procedures.

• Ability to follow instruction and work independently.
• Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.
• Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
