Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate a GVW 26,001+ lb truck and roll-off vehicle safely and in line with regulations.
  • Load, unload, secure cargo and organize donations to maximize space and prevent damage.
  • Maintain truck logs and vehicle maintenance sheets; perform daily vehicle inspections.
  • Coordinate with dispatcher and crew for delivery/collection instructions; communicate issues promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; maintain safety policies at all times.
  • Operate lift gates and other equipment when certified; assist with emergencies per company policy.

Job description

Drives a GVW truck weighing 26,001 pounds or more to transport materials to and from specified destinations, drive the Roll-off truck to transport trash in the compactor, and open-tops containers to and from the waste disposal sites, and performs the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Responsible for safe vehicle operations, driving, and crew safety at all times.
  • Drives truck to destination. If needed, prepares donations receipts at house pick-ups or miscellaneous deliveries.
  • Identifies unusable material (UM) and advises donors of alternative means for pick up.
  • Loads and unloads vehicle by using a hand truck or dolly.
  • Responsible for safely operating the lift gate when up-loading and down-loading cargo.
  • Coordinates load movements with the truck helper and other crew.
  • Loads vehicle, distributes weight evenly, forms compact load, organizes assorted donations and effectively utilizes space.
  • Positions pads, stacks and secures items on truck to prevent damage to goods and positions blocks and ties rope around items to secure cargo during transit.
  • Completes and maintains truck log, according to state and federal regulations.
  • Completes and maintains vehicle maintenance sheets by performing daily inspections of vehicle, equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water. Reports any unsafe conditions immediately to the department supervisor.
  • Maintains telephone or radio contact with dispatcher or lead person to receive delivery/collections instructions.
  • Observes vehicle operations policy including state and federal regulations.
  • Is knowledgeable and familiar with streets and locations on the island of Oahu.
  • In case of an emergency, notifies the office by radio immediately. Required to follow all company policies and procedures for handling emergencies while maintaining safety procedures at all times.
  • Operates other lift trucks and vehicles as required, if certified.
  • Keeps outside areas clean and neat. Organizes all assorted donations, metals, furniture, and bins.
  • Conducts work in a safe and responsible manner, utilizing protective clothing (i.e. gloves, support belt) and/or equipment (i.e. hand truck, dolly) when appropriate. Complies with all safety standards.
  • Responsible for awareness of and adherence to all company and safety policies and procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to read map coordinates and follow instructions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have a valid driver's license (type 4). Must have a traffic abstract that meets company guidelines, pass a DOT physical, functional capacity exam, and be at least 21 years of age. Must retain HDL and DOT medical card on their person at all time when working.

Regular Attendance is a requirement of this position. Core work hours are between 7:30 am-4:00 pm, Monday-Sunday, to include holidays, to meet the needs of a retail operation. Travel is not required.
