Job summary

The Salvation Army in Baton Rouge seeks a reliable truck driver to manage scheduled pickups and deliveries, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations. You will assist with loading, unloading, and warehouse tasks while maintaining strong donor relations.

Ideal candidates have a HS diploma or GED (preferred) and at least one year of heavy-truck driving experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, PTO, and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• At least one year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van.
• Valid State Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Drives Salvation Army truck along scheduled route to pick-up donations and deliver merchandise.
• Operates vehicle in compliance with standards and state regulations; loads/unloads donations as needed.
• Maintains safety, security, and accountability of vehicle and cargo at all times.
• Lifts, carries, and stacks donations; assists in warehouse and thrift store tasks.

Schedule/Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm -Some Saturdays as neededThis Position is responsible for:Drives Salvation Army truck along scheduled route to pick-up donations and/or deliver merchandise to customers; operates the truck in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations; lifts, carries, loads and unloads variety of donations including furniture, appliances, clothing, etc.; ensures the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and donations at all times; assists in performing work in thrift store and warehouse.Key Responsibilities:Reviews scheduled pick-ups to ensure they are scheduled for the correct day of the week and geographical location.Organizes scheduled pick-ups by most direct routes to save time and fuel consumption.Assists Truck Helper in lifting and stacking donations in the truck.Maintain good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.Assists Truck Helper in unloading the truck at the warehouse.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions. Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, and some climbing.
