Job summary

Coconino Community College is seeking two Peer Mentors for the Lone Tree Campus in Flagstaff, AZ. This temporary, part-time role requires 15–19 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits.

Mentors will support first-generation, low-income students and students with disabilities by providing encouragement, guidance, and connections to campus resources. Successful candidates will work independently and as part of a collaborative TRIO SSS team, maintaining documentation and assisting students

Qualifications

• At least one year’s experience in a community college environment (as student or employee).
• Completed at least 25 college credits with a minimum 2.5 GPA and good academic standing.

Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned caseload of approximately 40–60 mentees.
• Conduct outreach to mentees four times per year to assess needs and provide support.
• Develop and maintain positive mentoring relationships with mentees.
• Support mentees in developing skills, knowledge, confidence, and independence.
• Encourage student engagement and connection to CCC community and campus.
• Maintain accurate, timely mentoring documentation.
• Collaborate with TRIO SSS staff and campus partners to support student success.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job description

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Peer Mentors play an important role in helping first-generation and low-income students and students with disabilities successfully transition to college. Peer Mentors provide encouragement, guidance, and connections to campus and community resources while building positive, supportive relationships with their mentees.

TRIO SSS is currently seeking two Peer Mentors for the Lone Tree Campus in Flagstaff, Arizona.

The successful candidate will be able to work independently while also contributing effectively to a professional, collaborative, and team-oriented environment. This is a temporary, part-time position requiring 15–19 hours per week. This position is not eligible for benefits.

• Manage an assigned caseload of approximately 40–60 student mentees.
• Conduct outreach to assigned mentees four times per year to assess their needs and provide support related to tutoring, academic advising, time management, workshops, and other areas of student success.
• Develop and maintain positive, encouraging relationships with mentees through individual and group mentoring.
• Support mentees in developing the skills, knowledge, confidence, and independence needed to successfully transition to and thrive in college.
• Encourage student engagement and help mentees feel connected to the Coconino Community College (CCC) community and campus environment.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and consistent documentation of mentoring contacts and student interactions.
• Collaborate with TRIO SSS staff and other campus partners to support student success.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Peer Mentors should have knowledge of Coconino Community College and its available resources. Familiarity with mentoring strategies and effective college study skills is beneficial. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are essential. The ability to work independently while also contributing to a culturally diverse team environment is required.

Applicants must have at least one year’s experience in a community college environment either as a student or employee. They should have completed at least 25 college credits with a minimum 2.5 GPA and be in good academic standing. Peer Mentors report directly to the TRIO SSS Program Director.
