Job summary

Avila University is seeking an Academic Advisor for the federally funded TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program in Kansas City, MO. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Higher Education Administration, Education, Student Affairs, Academic Advising, Psychology, Social Work or related fields (Master’s preferred).
• Multilingual skills highly preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Experience in retention issues in higher education.
• Ability and willingness to work irregular and flexible hours.
• Ability to collaborate in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Support SSS recruitment efforts by assisting with outreach events, interviewing prospective participants, and enrollment processes.
• Advise first- and second-year students on registration, course development, goal setting, and academic progress.
• Monitor attendance, grades, test scores, and credits; implement improvement strategies as needed.
• Assess participant needs and coordinate referrals to support services.
• Freely represent the SSS program to Avila University constituents.
• Oversee SSS Peer Mentor Program planning, recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and evaluation.
• Recruit and hire tutors and document student progress.
• Co-teach First-Year Seminar with the SSS Director.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
