Job summary

The Cahuilla Band of Indians seeks a Public Works Director to lead planning, management, and execution of tribal public works projects. You will supervise staff, direct road maintenance, utilities, facilities, and construction, and oversee budgets, grants, and procurement with contractors and consultants.

Responsibilities include policy development, safety programs, and timely project delivery while ensuring compliance with tribal sovereignty and local regulations.

Qualifications

• Education in project/construction management or related field; equivalent experience may apply.
• Minimum four years in public works, project management, or construction management.
• Knowledge of funding resources, civil/building codes; tribal familiarity is a plus.
• Valid CA driver's license; supervisory experience required.
• Strong communication, organizational, and analytical abilities.
• Experience with procurement, RFPs, and vendor management is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain long-term public works programs and policies.
• Oversee road maintenance, building projects, and equipment needs.
• Manage grants, budgets, and financial reporting for public works.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, and contractors; set timetables.
• Monitor safety, compliance, and internal controls across projects.
• Direct staffing, performance reviews, and hiring decisions.
