Job summary

Birmingham Gastroenterolgy Assoc is seeking a front desk/medical assistant to provide cheerful, patient-centered care. You will greet patients, record vitals, and verify identities using two identifiers in a fast-paced clinic.

The role involves managing patient flow, maintaining clinic cleanliness, handling basic precerting tasks, and supporting healthcare providers with administrative duties. HIPAA compliance is mandatory.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1 year work experience in a medical field; physician office experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing to patients, doctors and staff.
• Knowledge of Electronic Health Records and processes.
• Typing speed of 35–40 wpm.
• Experience with assisting patient needs.
• BLS or ALS certification.

Responsibilities

• Deliver cheerful, caring, and courteous patient-centered care while greeting patients.
• Take and record patient vitals and verify patient with correct chart using two identifiers.
• Manage patient flow from front desk to exam room.
• Communicate with patients if a physician is late or running behind.
• Ensure disinfection and cleanliness of clinic areas, triage equipment, exam rooms and waiting rooms.
• Keep entry doors cleaned and disinfected; manage supplies and inventory.
• Travel to satellite clinics if needed.
• Observe HIPAA guidelines.

• Checks daily assignments
• Take and record patient vitals and required additional information, verifying correct patient with correct chart and physician, using two identifiers ..ie..name/DOB
• Manage patient flow from front desk to exam room
• Communicates with patients if physician is late or running behind
• Ensures disinfection and cleanliness of all clinic areas, triage equipment, exam rooms and waiting rooms.
• Keeps entry doors cleaned and disinfected
• Supplies exam rooms, keeping inventory and ordering all necessary supplies
• Keeps inventory of sample closets, disposing of all expired meds in approved receptacles.
• Travels to satellite clinics if need arises
• Works to improve healthcare services
• Identifies quality assurance and risk management issues reporting to appropriate management team
• Light MA task such as precerting, preforming breath test or calling to confirm appointments.
• Always observes HIPAA guidelines

Requirements

The minimum qualifications required to successfully perform this position are the following:
