Job summary

Hanover County Government is seeking an Accounting Supervisor to oversee all accounting operations within the Treasurer’s Office. The role directly supervises the Accountant and Financial Technician and reports to the Chief Deputy Treasurer.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or public administration and at least 3 years of supervisory experience, with CPA preferred. Governmental accounting experience is desired.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of progressively responsible experience, including supervisory duties.
• CPA or similar professional certification preferred.
• Experience in governmental or public sector accounting is desired.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency and policy compliance.
• Supervise staff and handle HR paperwork for the Treasurer’s Office.
• Reconcile bank, investment and cash balances; manage timely month/year-end close.
• Coordinate audits, respond to auditors and maintain GASB standards.
• Prepare annual financial reports for the Treasurer’s Office.
• Resolve financial discrepancies and maintain controls across departments.
