JE Dunn's Advanced Facilities Group (AFG) combines Mission Critical, Advanced Industries, and Industrial & Manufacturing into one high-performing team focused on cutting-edge work to serve innovative clients on large Industrial & Manufacturing, Data Center, and Semiconductor projects. As part of the Advanced Facilities team, you'll work on some of the most advanced construction projects nationwide, growing your career alongside our diverse team of industry professionals.
Role Summary
The Superintendent 2 will help plan, manage, and execute all aspects of assigned projects with some complexity. This position is responsible for managing materials and equipment, assisting with people management, ensuring documentation is complete, and meeting project goals for timely and profitable completion, all in support of JE Dunn's strategy, vision, and values.
Key Role Responsibilities - Core
- Lead the company's safety culture, demonstrate commitment to an injury-free environment, investigate safety incidents, and retrain staff as needed.
- Manage subcontractors and organize overall job workflow.
- Oversee company staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and programs such as Safety, Quality, and EEO for small projects or parts of larger projects.
- Develop work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work.
- Coordinate and manage the care, custody, and control of the project site.
- Lead meetings including daily standups and weekly trade meetings.
- Participate in progress and project OAC meetings.
- Create and manage project schedules in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- Track and monitor project budgets and costs using project management systems.
- Communicate key project information to stakeholders.
- Maintain project documentation, update drawings, logs, diaries, and inspection notebooks.
- Approve and record unit costs, complete daily and tracking reports.
- Evaluate progress on self-perform work and adjust as needed.
- Manage material and equipment needs.
- Support procurement and approval processes.
- Assist in selecting formwork, tools, and equipment for self-perform operations.
- Manage timecard approval to ensure accurate reporting.
- Ensure quality compliance through specifications, QA/QC, and outside resources.
- Support project closeouts, supervise pre-punch activities, and coordinate with owners and authorities.
- Understand project pursuit processes and methodologies.
- Participate in project pre-planning, monitoring, and adjustments throughout the project lifecycle.
- Partner with field leadership on staffing and project changes.
- Participate in negotiations with owners and architects for project changes.
- Prepare and present for project review meetings.
- Participate in subcontractor and vendor buyout meetings.
- Understand contractual terms and conditions.
- Identify and recruit top talent.
- Promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, ensuring non-discrimination policies are implemented.
Additional Responsibilities
- Manage fairly complex stand-alone projects from start to finish.
- Manage scheduling, production, safety, and quality on assigned projects.
- Identify and actively manage project risks.
- Use experience and knowledge to identify problems and recommend solutions.
- Manage deliverables from internal resources.
- Participate in project pursuits and negotiations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Perform work accurately, completely, and timely.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to conduct presentations.
- Proficiency in MS Office and project management software.
- Understanding of construction management fundamentals.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's preferred.
- 5+ years construction experience; 3+ years field supervision.
- Experience with Lean principles and industrial projects preferred.
Working Environment
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Travel and/or relocation may be required.
- Exposure to extreme conditions; willingness to work non-traditional hours.
- Physical activities include standing, walking, climbing, etc.
