Job summary

Accounting Search is seeking a traveling field technician to test and maintain high-voltage substation equipment for utility and industrial customers across the Midwest. You will operate from a home base near Chicago or Springfield IL, or Madison or Green Bay WI, and travel up to 100% with per diem.

You’ll test HV systems up to 765 kV, inspect switchgear and transformers, and validate control and transfer schemes using advanced test equipment in diverse field environments.

Qualifications

• Hands-on substation experience (69-345 kV) with relays, breakers, transformers and controls.
• NETA Level II-IV preferred; uncertified techs may be considered.
• Military power-training background is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Test, troubleshoot and commission LV through HV systems, up to 765 kV.
• Test switchgear and breakers, including SF6 gas breakers and GIS.
• Inspect, test and repair transformers, from small units to large power transformers.
• Run HV test sets (Doble M4000 class or similar) and test cable installs.
• Commission and troubleshoot control and transfer schemes.
