Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a skilled HVAC Journeyman Mechanic to join our commercial service team. You will work on rooftop units, chillers, and related infrastructure, delivering high-quality service to our clients.

You will diagnose, repair and maintain systems while traveling 10–20% regionally. Commitment to safety, training at our Service Technical Academy, and alignment with UA requirements are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years of commercial/industrial HVAC experience.
• Universal EPA refrigerant certification.
• Valid driver's license.
• Proficiency in mechanical alignment and vibration diagnostics.
• Ability to communicate clearly with customers and document service actions.
• Willingness to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices (UA).
• Self-motivated, safety-focused, and eager to learn.
• Ability to pass a technical proficiency exam.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing and repairing commercial HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, compressors, pumps, fans, etc.)
• Performing maintenance and replacements on mechanical systems
• Troubleshooting advanced systems including centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon components
• Conducting mechanical shaft alignment and vibration analysis
• Installing complete HVAC systems and supporting infrastructure
• Providing expert recommendations and quotes for system upgrades and repairs
• Collaborating with apprentices and other mechanics to share knowledge and ensure top-tier service
• Traveling 10-20% to support customer needs across the region
• Prioritizing safety in every task
