Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking an HVAC Journeyman Mechanic to support our commercial service team. You will diagnose, repair, and optimize rooftop units, chillers, and related equipment while prioritizing safety and customer communication.

You will perform complex troubleshooting, shaft alignment, and vibration analysis across a regional scope with travel up to 20% and a focus on quality service and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-5 years of commercial/industrial HVAC experience.
• Universal EPA refrigerant certification.
• Valid current driver’s license.
• Proficiency in mechanical alignment and vibration diagnostics.
• Ability to communicate clearly with customers and document service actions.
• Willingness to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices (UA).
• Self-motivated, safety-focused, and eager to learn.
• Ability to pass a technical proficiency exam.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing and repairing commercial HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, compressors, pumps, fans, etc.).
• Performing maintenance and replacements on mechanical systems.
• Troubleshooting advanced systems including centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon components.
• Conducting mechanical shaft alignment and vibration analysis.
• Installing complete HVAC systems and supporting infrastructure.
• Providing expert recommendations and quotes for system upgrades and repairs.
• Collaborating with apprentices and other mechanics to share knowledge and ensure top-tier service.
• Traveling 10-20% to support customer needs across the region.
• Prioritizing safety in every task.
