Job summary

Independence Excavating, a leading heavy civil contractor, is seeking a Traveling Heavy Civil Project Manager to oversee complex projects from budgeting through closeout. You will manage submittals, RFIs, contracts, and purchase orders while coordinating with superintendents, owners, and engineers across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.
• At least 5 years’ experience managing large commercial construction projects.
• Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to foster positive relationships with owners, engineers, and local government offices.
• Ability to manage people, budget, schedule, and quality across multiple sites.
• Competence in complete and accurate project take-offs and estimates.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 100%.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and return submittals for items to be manufactured or provided.
• Collaborate with Superintendent/Operations Manager on equipment and crew needs.
• Assemble and regularly update job cost codes for projects.
• Coordinate subcontractors and material deliveries on major items.
• Review and approve subcontractor/supplier estimates and invoices.
• Negotiate and coordinate Extra Work Orders and CORs for scope changes.
• Monitor production, resource utilization, and overall cost vs. estimates to maintain profit margins.
• Prepare monthly job cost/profit projections.
