Job summary

North Sky Communications is seeking an experienced Traveling HDD Operator to join our underground utility team in Oregon. You will set up, calibrate, and operate HDD rigs to install utilities across multiple job sites with a safety-first mindset.

Responsibilities include driving Class A vehicles to haul rigs, performing pre-bore inspections, mixing drilling fluids, and coordinating with crew to maintain line and grade. Willingness to travel statewide is required.

Qualifications

• CDL Class A with clean driving record; tanker endorsement preferred for water/mud haulers.
• 1–3+ years hands-on HDD drilling experience in utility construction.
• Statewide travel ability, including overnight stays when required.
• Understanding of ground conditions, drilling fluids, and reading utility prints/blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Operate directional drill rigs to bore for fiber, conduit, and utilities.
• Drive Class A vehicles to haul rigs and equipment to site locations across Oregon.
• Perform pre-bore inspections, verify 811 locates and oversee potholing activities.
• Mix and monitor drilling fluids; perform routine maintenance on equipment.
• Coordinate with locator/tracker, crew, and foremen to maintain line and grade.
• Travel extensively to active project sites across Oregon and stay on-site as needed.
