Job summary

North Sky Communications is seeking an experienced Traveling HDD Operator to join our underground utility team. The role requires operating directional drill rigs to install fiber and other utilities across Oregon, with extensive statewide travel.

The ideal candidate has 1–3+ years of HDD experience, a valid Class A CDL, and a safety-focused mindset. Willingness to travel and perform on-site work, with physical ability for demanding outdoor tasks, is essential.

Qualifications

Minimum 1–3+ years of HDD drill rig experience in utility construction.
Valid Class A CDL with clean driving record (Tanker endorsement preferred).
Willingness to travel statewide throughout Oregon.
Understanding of ground conditions, mud mixing ratios, and reading utility prints/blueprints.
Physical ability to lift 50–70 lbs and perform outdoor labor.

Responsibilities

Set up, calibrate, and operate HDD drill rigs for underground bores.
Drive Class A vehicles to transport rigs and equipment to sites.
Perform pre-bore inspections and verify 811 locates; oversee potholing.
Mix and monitor drilling fluids and perform routine maintenance.
Coordinate with locator/tracker and crew to maintain line and grade with safety compliance.
Travel extensively to project sites across Oregon and stay on-site during regional jobs.
Other duties as assigned.
