PetVet Care Centers’ Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, KY seeks a Performance Horse Veterinary Assistant to support one veterinarian in an ambulatory setting. You will assist with examinations, treatments, and procedures while delivering exceptional service and ensuring patient safety.

The role requires equine experience, strong organization, and solid communication skills. Valid driver’s license may be required; 5-6 days schedule and overtime during busy periods are possible.

Qualifications

• Experience with equine medicine and handling in performance or racetrack settings.
• Ability to maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver’s license may be required.
• Ability to adapt to changing schedules and field settings.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarian during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
• Prepare equipment, instruments, and supplies for procedures.
• Maintain inventory and restock in vehicles.
• Keep veterinary vehicles clean and field-ready.
• Record patient medical data accurately and timely.
• Support with client billing and documentation.
• Maintain controlled substance logs per regulations.
• Help with patient restraint and procedural prep.
• Ensure a clean, safe work environment.
• Communicate professionally with vets, team, and clients.
• Follow safety, biosecurity, and company policies.
• Complete special projects as assigned.
