General Responsibilities

The Traveling Construction Technician will perform various observations and tests on construction materials such as soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel, and asphalt. Throughout the projects, you will communicate with Project Managers, client representatives, contractor’s representatives and other key stakeholders regarding testing and inspection results. Tests are performed on building construction projects and further tested in Terracon laboratories. Successful candidates will receive in-depth technical training and professional certifications as they advance in the position.

Essential Role And Responsibilities

• Travel to and from projects as they are assigned to you
• Assist with tasks and perform basic sample tests and observation of soils, aggregates, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel, and asphalt under the direction of staff professionals or project managers.
• Document and prepare sample testing and observation data using a laptop or tablet device; submit findings accurately to a Project Manager and effectively communicate testing and inspection results.
• Be progressively trained and take on increased responsibilities in work assignments.
• Ensure all testing equipment and tools are properly calibrated and maintained.
• Follow safety rules and practices, perform pre-task planning, and report safety issues or concerns to management.
• Maintain quality standards on all projects and work as part of a team.
• Transport materials safely from various job sites to the lab using a company-provided vehicle.

Requirements

• 100% Travel Required
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience or equivalent training
• Experience with laptop use and Microsoft Word and Excel
• ACI certification in one or more areas: Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, Concrete Strength Testing Technician, or Radiation Safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation
• Successful completion of related internal safety certifications
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history

Preferred Certifications

• NICET Level III in Construction Materials Testing or Geotechnical categories
• ICC certification in various categories such as Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, etc.
• American Welding Society (AWS) Senior Certified Welding Inspector
• ASNT Level III in areas like VT, MT, PT, RT, UT
