Job summary

American Traveler seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist for a Main OR position. The candidate will support a fast-paced OR team with 22 beds in the main unit, 8 ASC beds, and 10 ortho beds. Day shifts are 4x10, with potential on-call responsibilities and a range of patient settings from outpatient to critical care.

The role requires 1+ year hospital surgical tech experience, BLS, and adherence to sterile technique and universal precautions in a Level 1 Trauma/Burn Center setting.

Qualifications

• Must have graduated from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Minimum of 1 year of recent Surgical Technologist experience in a hospital setting.
• BLS certification from AHA required.
• CORST licensure preferred.
• License required if applicable.
• Level 1 trauma experience with multiple years preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, sets, and equipment.
• Ability to stand and walk for most of the shift.
• Ability to lift and push patients on stretchers, equipment, and instrument sets.
• Must adhere to Universal Precautions when working with contaminated instruments and equipment.
• Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for all travelers from November 1 to April 1, with no declinations accepted.

Responsibilities

• Main OR unit with 22 main beds, 8 ASC beds, and 10 ortho beds.
• Patient population ranges from outpatient to critical care inpatient cases.
• 1:1 patient ratios.
• Uses various surgical equipment including DaVinci Robot system.
• EPIC EMR system used.
• Day shift schedule, 4x10, scheduled between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
• Weekend hours as required by facility.
• Float requirements as required by facility.
• On-call requirements average around 5 shifts per 8 weeks, any scheduled day.
• Provide direct patient care under supervision of the surgeon and circulating RN.
• Efficiently set up surgical cases across multiple specialty disciplines based on patient needs and surgeon preference.
• Create and maintain sterile fields and perform instrument, sponge, and sharp counts.
• Serve as a resource for newly hired Surgical Technologists and visiting Surgical Technology students.
• Work in a fast-paced environment with occasional high-stress situations.
• Black scrub color required; jeans and unprofessional attire not permitted.
• Facility is a Level 1 Trauma & Burn Center and Level 2 Stroke Center.
• Up to 5 days of requested time off allowed, to be made up during the assignment.
• No employment gaps of 90+ days within the past 12 months.
