Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit position requiring at least 2 years of cardiac PCU experience and NC/compact RN licensure.

The role includes 30-private bed unit with CCMD monitoring, night shifts (7:00 PM–7:30 AM), and 50+ miles distance from the facility for eligibility. EPIC EMR is used across the unit, with travel-friendly benefits and potential cross-campus float.

Qualifications

• Active NC or compact RN license required.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred.
• Minimum 2 years RN experience, preferably cardiac PCU.
• EPIC EMR experience required.
• Must pass a compliance EKG exam (two attempts allowed).
• Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Skilled in telemetry monitoring on the unit.
• Skilled in management of peripheral and PICC lines.
• Skilled in management of cardiac and vasoactive drips (titration preferred).
• Skilled in procedural sedation administration and monitoring.
• Skilled in chest tube management (Emerson, Pleur-evac).
• Skilled in external CPAP/BiPAP and tracheostomy management.
• Previous Charge RN experience preferred.
• Experience with Rapid Response Teams preferred.
• Valid driver's license required for address verification.

Responsibilities

• 30-private bed Cardiac Medical Progressive Care Unit providing 24/7 care.
• Rooms are remotely monitored by the Centralized Cardiac Monitoring Department (CCMD).
• Focus on cardiac patients including CHF, ACS, arrhythmias, pre/post cardiac catheterization, rule out MI, syncope, and pacemaker placement.
• Secondary focus on respiratory conditions such as COPD, pneumonia, and BiPAP management.
• Patient ratios of 1:4 with drips/BiPAP, otherwise mostly 1:5.
• Night shift, 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM-7:30 AM.
• Weekend rotation with holidays as needed.
• Nurse Assistants available 24/7 and RN secretary support from 7 AM-11 PM.
• EPIC EMR required.
• May float to any Cone Health campus as needed.
• Provide direct nursing care to cardiac and respiratory progressive care patients.
• Staff are scheduled for a 6-week period via a self-assisted scheduling system based on departmental need and patient acuity.
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; no local candidates within this radius accepted.
• RTO requests must be submitted with the application; no post-submission RTO accepted.
• Background checks must show no open cases.
• Education verification required through a third party.
